Custom made rug for the Ballroom,Palace Kneuterdijk (1716), hand tufted in one piece by German artisans. The ballroom belongs to the little ‘white palace’ and was build by Willem II for his wife Anna Paulowna. The ballroom is restored to it’s old glory and significant Empire style. One of the few originals left in the Netherlands. Motives and drawings in the rug refer to this typical international style brought by Napoleon and symbolize the monarchy and it’s power. Different patterns and yarn qualities show there sheen vary over the hole rug. The peacock in the rug refers to the monarchies glory, ambition, immortality and rebirth.
